The different training instances attended by teams from SAAM Towage’s subsidiaries and central offices facilitated Helm’s Go Live in the country. “This was super important because it helped ward off fear and resistance to change. In fact, we are all really optimistic about the improvements,” said Javiera Cifuentes, Senior Operations Specialist at SAAM Towage Brazil.

The first three or four weeks after adopting the new system are the most challenging. As is common with these processes, once you start using the tool, you find missing data, configuration errors, bugs in the system, etc. “The subsidiaries played a crucial role in reporting each of these issues, and the team of key users and Helm were able to resolve them quickly,” commented Javiera.

The system-related workload lessened in the fourth or fifth week, making it possible to focus on other important issues related to the reality of operations in Brazil. This included auditing the quality of data completion in Helm by the more than one hundred captains and thirteen subsidiaries. We also launched a tool that uploads competitors’ orders en masse to identify our market share.

Javiera Cifuentes highlighted that Helm V6 enables greater data analysis and control as well as the elaboration of customized reports. However, Connect is more intuitive for commanders and operators.

“To give some examples, Connect lets you create fields. We have used that feature to identify specific situations at subsidiaries. We have also added data on maneuvering lines, which we did not have before, and we use the new reports to monitor these issues at the operation,” stated Javiera.

Finally, she noted, “We are certain Helm will positively impact work. At this stage, we can already appreciate the benefits of the new platform. It is easier to use. It has a cleaner database. It facilitates better monitoring of subsidiaries and recording of new data that is important for the operation. In short, we are getting all the benefits we hoped for, like the new reports that improve our analysis, planning and monitoring of the operation and its costs.”
