“Tripanko gives us a single, interconnected system that is useful for working proactively and making our processes more efficient.”

Joaquín Dueñas, Country Manager at SAAM Towage Costa Rica, says they are actively participating in every training to support progress on Tripanko implementation. Closing the inter-area technology gap posed a significant challenge, but it has been possible thanks to the commitment demonstrated by each team member.

What benefits do you see in the short term?

One of the main benefits will be having all the fleets, regardless of country or subsidiary, in a single interconnected system. We will be able better visualize the crew’s actual consumption by tug. We know that needs differ by country, but establishing parameters is essential to a standardized operating model. Monitoring average consumption will give us an idea of what we should be spending and help us stay within the upper and lower limits. It will also help us anticipate potential failures. Having us all in a single system will give us information vital to acting quickly and efficiently.

What is the greatest impact that Tripanko will have on SAAM Towage Costa Rica?

The greatest impact will be much more accurate monitoring of maintenance jobs. For example, we will assess performance and determine whether another type of support is needed, which specific jobs need to be performed on a tug, or which parts and supplies we need immediately in the face of an event. This will really shorten the process and help make maintenance, in general, more effective.

Given that Tripanko involves changing organizational culture, how have the different teams received it?

In general, we have seen great willingness, teamwork, and openness to change in Costa Rica. The challenge has been in closing the technology gap. We have been working hard to bring the different areas up to the same level. In that sense, I would like the recognize the commitment demonstrated by every person who is part of SAAM Towage Costa Rica. It has been fundamental to starting to see the fruits as we all familiarize ourselves with the new system.

What have been the main challenges related to Tripanko implementation?

The main challenge is getting all our personnel to learn the new system in-depth so we can harness all its potential. We have seen progress and an ability to adapt in the onboard and office personnel.
