“Tripanko has had an impact in all areas of maintenance. In the short term it has helped in the organization of our processes, since many of them were not completely defined”

Víctor Hurtado says that, as Maintenance Manager, he must be in contact with his team to verify any new events that were generated during the night and what is scheduled for the day. Thus, on a day-to-day basis, he is in charge of validating the NSE work program, its progress, execution, closure, in addition to validating purchasing processes with the procurement area and aligning the requirements of the department.

“A big part of the day consists of controlling costs, executing projects and scheduled work, providing support to my team and the onboard personnel,” explains Víctor, who also makes routine visits to the tugboats “to be aware of their status, as well as the environment of the teams on board and their needs,” he explains.

What impact does Tripanko have on Maintenance objectives?

Tripanko is the central axis of the entire maintenance process for SAAM Towage Panama, giving us a traceability we did not have previously. That was a big change, both for the maintenance team and for our on-board personnel.

Tripanko directly impacts the maintenance objectives, since it makes them traceable and, therefore, they can be controlled and visualized throughout its process, from its programming, activation, execution and completion. All this allows the maintenance process to be carried out correctly, under the guidelines of the manufacturers and based on our experience, so we can avoid failures in our equipment.

To date, how has Tripanko impacted the Maintenance?

Although we previously worked with NS5, the scope was not the same. For this reason, Tripanko -and specifically NSE- has been a great contribution and at the same time a great challenge, generating a change, both in the ground maintenance teams, as well as in our crews.

What will implementing Tripanko mean for our employees’ Maintenance-related, day-to-day activities?

The configuration of our maintenance plans and their processes benefit from NSE, since they are much more detailed, with detailed guidelines of the work that has to be carried out. This benefits the maintenance of our equipment, as it is easier for our crew to see the scope of the tasks that must be carried out within maintenance. This allows our teams to schedule the working hours or purchases, job closures or information loading. All this, with the support and guidance of our Key User and the team of Technical Superintendents (TSI), who are always available to train our staff or to clarify any questions they may have.

Which Maintenance areas will the project impact in the short, medium and long term?

Tripanko has had an impact in all areas of maintenance. In the short term it has helped in the organization of our processes, since many of them were not completely defined. Both, in the medium and long term, it will generate continuous improvement in the maintenance process and traceability that will improve management at all levels, in the budgetary scope and in the maintenance processes themselves.

What do you think are the biggest challenges that a project like Tripanko could face in 2021?

For Panama, NSE has been a challenge since its inception, as it was a new management system that was not known to everyone. The biggest challenge is that all our staff manage to work on it in the best way and can get the most out of it.
