SAAM Towage Uruguay’s fleet has seven tugs, three pushers, three pontoons and 13 barges operated by approximately 140 crew members who provide support for all its operations.

José Ignacio Maidana, Procurement and Logistics Supervisor, explains that they are approaching Go Live and have been assisted by other countries that are in more advanced training stages.

As for how the program has been received by crews, Maidana remarks that “for them it has been a profound change because our previous management system was essentially done manually using basic programs and files. A large percentage of our engineers have never interacted with such a potent, sophisticated system like NS in their whole careers, so they are very motivated and looking forward to this new challenge.”

In his opinion, the main adversity has been “the natural reaction everyone has to the unknown and to change,” but he concludes that the crews have adapted well thanks to informational talks that have been given.
